Inscribed with verse in Persian upper left Line wash and watercolour, heightened with bodycolour, on paper The inscription upper left translates as ‘Wine server, understand that the world is trying to destroy both of us. In spite of this we have to live in it. If there is a cup of wine before you and me believe that both of us are on the right way.’ Literature: Lalit Kala Akademi, Contemporary Series, Ramgopal Vijaivargiya where Dr Manohar Prabhakar records in his introduction that Vijaivargiya did a series on the Omar Khayyam soon after 1925, of which this painting may well be a part.
