Lovers

Touched and clothed by the sensitivity of its creator, `Lovers? becomes an integral part of Amarnath Sehgal?s sensitivity. This sculpture seeks to go beyond its mood of modest dimensions, the proportions and the movement of the drapes drop to gravity?s resilience and finds its own precision. ?Lovers? calls to mind a clear and limpid sphere of the Indianesque idiom. Space and form come together to create an aura that is both within and without. The reverberation of closeness becomes a proximity that registers the undefined chemistry between man and woman. Amarnath?s oeuvre that spans six decades boasts of major works that are now resting in Africa -Voice of Africa (1959); to his most evocative work Anguished Cries (1971) a bronze that lies embedded in the Berlin Wall in West Berlin. From a monumental sculptural tribute to Mahatma Gandhi (1971) in Luxembourg to Rising Spirit (1978), which is a part of the White House Collection he is an Indian sculptor whose works have spanned the corridors of history and time.
