Lord Hanuman is considered by some to be the 13th Rudra form of Lord Shiva. Lord Hanuman was trained by God Shiva in the warrior arts. He was also taught the secret of ‘nullification’ of the ‘Brahmastra,’ the most powerful weapon in the world. The reason why Shiva advised Hanuman to develop expertise in the mace is because of his physical strength and athletic build. Hanuman was also taught in the other weapons too, but he felt more comfortable in wielding the mace as it was designed for him, in accordance with his strength and level of power by the God Varuna. This representation depicts him as an entity full of valour.
Hanuman is considered to be Chiranjeevi; the one who lives eternally. He is stronger than the strongest enemies, full of gallantry, with various skills and powers. He is foremost of the famed devotees of the Lord Rama as his humble and exceeding devotion is matchless. Throughout his life as given in the epic Ramayana, he performed only one task which is serving the lotus feet of Lord Rama by complying to his commandments. He joined the military forces with the Lord in a battle against the Lankan King Ravana, and used his extraordinary powers several times to assist the Lord. He also set Ravana’s Lanka on fire in their mission to save Mother Sita. This work is a tribute to that epoch.
