Provenance: This lot was sold at Christie?s Singapore sale of South East Asian Pictures and 20th Century Indian Pictures, in April 2001. The human form and the language of abstraction both come together in this work of Husain as it celebrates the confluence of myth and the magic of the legends of yore. In this work that echoes a theatrical feel, there is a tableaux of symbols, even the inter relation of elements is not apparent at the outset. But the work encapsulates the power of history even as it brings in its wake the ferment of civilization of both past and present. Husain?s ability to place the graphic reality of the universal idiom in its abstracted tenor is what keeps this work as an advent of an era of creation. The foot print of man becomes autobiographical.
